On the 19th of November 2018 an Environmental, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS) training was conducted at CGC Nigeria Limited headquarters Abuja, Nigeria. The aim of the training was to re-create an awareness ensuring participants of the efficacy of ESHS and the need to adhere to the stipulated rules and regulations in their various job posting and projects. The training which was for 5days (19th – 23rd of November) and ran from 08:00 – 17:00Hrs.
The training topics included basic HSE for the construction sector, Environmental Issues (Dust, Emissions and odor), Asphalt best practices, Work Zone Traffic Safety, Safety Signs, Symbols and Colour, Working at Height, Hazard Identification and Assessment, Effective Communication, Basic First Aid, Accident and Incident Investigation, Assessment of Health Risks, Fire Safety, Permit – To – Work System, Workplace emergencies and evacuation etc.
The number of participants where 19 in total compromising of HSE Officers/Specialists, Administrative Business Managers, Project Managers, Engineers (which were but mainly the new graduate trainee except from 1 participant) and PROs most of which had previous experiences in the building, construction, drilling, road and bridge and water conservation and hydropower sectors.
The training had three phases which consisted of video, questionnaire/investigation and inspection and power point slides to enable the participants further understand all the topics in relation to their specific sectors. This was a huge success as the participants had a lot to share from their various experiences, the topic where properly emphasized, questions asked where professionally answered, and feedbacks were most welcomed to enable c management build up a much more better training for records and future purposes.
